The Vietnam War was one of the most discordant wars of all time. The Vietnam War was the second phase of fighting in Vietnam. In 1946, Vietnam was part of the colony of French Indochina. The Vietnamese fought for their independence, but even with the United States providing military equipment, the French were defeated in 1954. Vietnam was then divided into North and South Vietnam. It was faught on 127,000 square miles of land, and fought in tropical weather. The war was fought between the Communist of North Vietnam and the government of South Vietnam. The war had many fatalities, 3 to 4 million Vietnamese and around 58,000 U.S Soldiers died. The U.S suffered financially, spendind between $112 to $155 billion to defeat North Vietnam. North Vietnam wanted to end U.S. support of South Vietnam and to unite the north and south into a single nation. The United States and the South Vietnamese army tried to stop them.
